It is handy to have Photoshop and know how to use it, but for most of us it is not an option. It takes a long time to learn it properly and it is an expensive addition to your business tools selection. But here is some good news: there is a lots of apps now days that are doing great photo editing in seconds, they need no any special skills and most of them available for free from the Play store. I am using Google tools and have a Google phone to keep all my things in one place, so I will speak about Android apps, but I know that they all should be available from App-store as well.
I need to say that I newer use any of apps for the shop listings photos (and for albums on Facebook), as all apps:
1) changing hues (speaking about filters mainly using in editing) witch is not good for your customers, but helping with storytelling on Instagram or Facebook;
2) reducing quality of the photos - that's why Adobe products are expensive, they are smarter and have a huge range of possibilities you probably don't need for your social media. Medium quality is ok for Instagram and maybe even for Facebook - people used to check up their feed from smartphones mostly, and you can use their small screens to make your life bit easier. But try to pick up for posting the best photos anyway, remember about good lighting and composition, no mater if you are using SLR camera or just your smartphone cam.
Reasons why I am using photo editing apps for posting on social media:
1) Because I can :) I can mask some small faults of my smartphone cam (too dark, low contrast etc). Not all of my photos made by SLR camera as I am one man orchestra and have to do a lots of other things.
2) Apps are helping to create a mood that's important in visual storytelling. When people checking up your shop they are expecting to see in details of products they can purchase. You should provide them with sharp photos, shoving the details and right colors. But when they are starting to follow you on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook, they are expecting something beyond that, they want to be exited, charmed, delighted or wondering. Photo editing helping to build up that emotions.
3) It helping to create your consistent and different from others visual style
4) It is a fun! To use and to see the result, to make the same picks from your shop looks a bit different, create a quality content for your account.
